Mayfields Funerals has served Southsea and Portsmouth since 1991, when the business first opened on Elm Grove under the Colbourne family. In 2018 it joined the South Downs Funeral Service family specifically to safeguard its independent, community-rooted character rather than be absorbed by a corporate group. Founder David Colbourne remains involved as a consultant, working alongside funeral director Martin Doe and funeral arranger Rosie Edmonds. The wider South Downs team, led by second-generation funeral director Paul Lee-Bapty and accredited by SAIF, brings decades of experience, with one dedicated point of contact per family, no call centres, plus floristry, stonemasonry, limousine hire and repatriation services available.
