James Brown & Sons was established in 1904 after its founder relocated from Monaghan to Belfast, arranging its first funeral in 1932. The business was sold in 1988 and is now part of the Funeral Partners group, though it retains what the company calls the "abiding ethos" of its founders: "Caring is at the heart of what we do." The group operates seven branches across greater Belfast, including three in Belfast itself (Newtownards Road, Knockbreda Road, Lisburn Road) plus Dundonald, Dunmurry, Whiteabbey and Newtownabbey (438 Shore Road, Unit 3 Beverley Shopping Centre).
Services span cremations, burials, unattended cremation, repatriation, live streaming, memorial masonry, floral tributes, coffin selection and Choice prepaid funeral plans, with online funeral notices and tribute pages. Most homes are served by Roselawn Cemetery & Crematorium, and the group is a member of NAFD and IAFD, with stated values of pride, respect, professional standards and partnership.
