Denis Hartley & Son is an independent, family-operated funeral director based at Crown Funeral Home, 35 Back Brown Street, Colne, Lancashire, offering direct cremation, traditional and alternative funeral services with 24/7 staff support.
Denis Hartley took over as Colne's undertaker in 1959 after working at the local Co-op, formally establishing the company in 1972. In 1984 he and his son Shaun relocated the business to its current home, a former coaching house for the Crown Hotel with roots as the Crown Livery Stables. Following Denis's death in 2001, Shaun and his wife Susan took over running the family firm.
The business offers a private family-viewing room and chapel of rest, both modern and horse-drawn hearse hire, and pre-paid funeral plans through Golden Charter or Help the Aged.
