Cotton and Son Ltd

Cotton & Son has served Weymouth, Portland and the surrounding area since 1912, over 100 years of family history. The business was run across three generations of the Cotton family (Edward, John and Peter) before Jane Cotton entrusted it, in June 2023, to fellow family firm A.J. Wakely & Son, under whom it now operates, with Jane continuing to provide personal oversight.

The day-to-day team includes Margaret Sherratt, Principal Funeral Director and Office Manager since 2005, Nathan Westwood, a Funeral Director since 2008, and Peter Smith, who joined in 2018 and is training as a Funeral Director; all three qualified funeral directors are supported by professional funeral assistants, bearers and drivers, and Margaret and Nathan hold NAFD qualifications. The firm is a member of the National Association of Funeral Directors and the Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors.

Based at Milton House in Weymouth, Cotton & Son offers a full range of coffins, caskets and ashes containers, along with an online cost estimator so families can see pricing in advance, and continues to guide local families through funeral arrangements with a dignified, professional and personal approach as a well-established, close-knit family team.
