Brook Smith and Son is an independent, family-run funeral director based at Fairbanks House, Bunkers Hill, Skipton, North Yorkshire, serving Skipton and a wider surrounding area. The firm offers a full range of funeral arrangement and planning services, including direct cremation, alongside monumental and memorial masonry work, from a modern purpose-built chapel of rest and mortuary.
The business was established in 1955 by Brook Smith, originally as a joinery business that grew into funeral directing, and remains family-owned to this day. It is now run by Howard Smith, the founder's son, together with his wife Susan - the lead funeral director, who trained as a nurse and qualified in 1992 - and their daughter Rebecca, who has since joined the business, also bringing a nursing background. The present chapel of rest and mortuary building was added by Howard in 2001. The firm holds multiple professional accreditations, including membership of the British Institute of Funeral Directors (BIFD), the British Institute of Embalmers (BIOE) and the National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD), and is an appointed representative of Golden Leaves Limited for FCA-regulated funeral plans.
With three generations of the same family having worked in the business since 1955 and a modern mortuary and chapel of rest on site, the firm combines long-standing local roots with facilities upgraded within the last generation, and is available 24 hours a day to families across and beyond Skipton.
