T Pennack and Sons Ltd

T Pennack and Sons Ltd is an independent, family-run funeral director based at 1-3 Maldon Road in Chelmsford, Essex, offering full funeral arrangement services including attended funerals, cremation, direct cremation, and pre-paid funeral plans through Golden Leaves, an FCA-authorised provider.

The business dates back to the early 1800s and is now run by the seventh generation of the same family, having operated from the same Chelmsford location for more than two centuries — a rare depth of continuity among UK independents. The firm holds membership of both the National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD) and SAIF (the National Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors), and positions its independence as a point of difference, emphasising personalised service unconstrained by corporate policy or profit targets that can shape decisions at larger chains.

The practice operates Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm, with a 24-hour personally-answered phone line on 01245 471157 for out-of-hours enquiries. The firm publishes multiple pricing documents — including coffin, crematorium, standardised and full price lists — reflecting a strong emphasis on cost transparency for families comparing options in Chelmsford and the surrounding Essex area.
