Phillip Tom & Sons has been an independent, family-run funeral director in Risca since 1992, when the Tom family first established the business. Stephen Tom joined in 1994, his wife Louisa followed in 2010, and their son Joseph became a third-generation partner in 2017, giving the firm more than three decades of continuous family involvement and local knowledge of Newport and the wider Gwent area.
The business operates its own Private Service Chapel on Cromwell Road, built in 1886 and recently renovated, which can accommodate around 80 mourners for a more personal, private ceremony. Alongside traditional funerals and direct cremations, the team offers pre-paid funeral plans, online memorial pages, bereavement counselling, monumental memorials, floral arrangements and keepsake memorials, with financial assistance options available for families who need them.
Three generations on, Phillip Tom & Sons continues to be recognised locally for the quality and dignity with which it carries out every funeral, giving families across Risca and Newport a genuinely independent alternative to the larger funeral chains.
