P Boast and Son was founded in 1904 by Peter Boast, a local builder who provided funeral services at weekends, and traded through four generations of family ownership at 36 Eastworth Road before being sold to G M Luff & Partners in 1997; Matthew Boast, the founder's great-grandson, continues to run the firm today as part of the Ford Mears group, which has invested in the branch to widen its range of services and vehicles, including a Bentley hearse and limousine at no extra charge, and electric-hearse green funerals.
