Northwood and Sons has operated from 52 High Street in Much Wenlock for five generations since 1861, when it was founded by Thomas Edwards; the firm took the Northwood name in 1965. Current owners Andrew and Karen Woodhouse took over from Gordon Northwood, who remains involved locally as an advisor, with Andrew bringing twelve years of funeral service experience and Karen a background as a qualified staff nurse.
The firm offers both traditional and alternative arrangements, including Jaguar limousines and motor hearses alongside unusual options such as a bus, lorry, motorbike, Morris Traveller or VW Camper Van hearse, plus a silver Renault Grand Espace and classic Jaguar options. Coffin choices span willow, sea-grass, cardboard and picture coffins, and the business also arranges woodland and green burials, flowers and reception venues.
Northwood and Sons serves the whole of Shropshire and is a member of the National Association of Funeral Directors, adhering to its code of conduct, with a stated philosophy of tailored, caring and professional service.
