Northcott Brothers has served Sidmouth and district since 1893, originally operating from Church Street, Sidford. In 2013 the business joined fellow third-generation independent funeral directors A.J. Wakely & Sons, a family-operated group founded in 1897 that has now been run by four generations of the Wakely family and trades from a network of branches across Devon, Dorset and Somerset, including Bridport, Beaminster, Chard, Crewkerne, Ilminster, Lyme Regis, Sherborne, Wincanton and Yeovil alongside Sidmouth.
The Sidmouth branch, at 68 Temple Street, is a member of SAIF (Society of Allied Independent Funeral Directors), and the wider A.J. Wakely group also holds membership of the National Association of Funeral Directors and the British Institute of Embalmers, adhering to recognised industry codes of practice. The branch offers traditional and bespoke funerals and direct cremation, drawing on local knowledge of the Sidmouth community, with staff available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
