M Coghlan Ltd was established in Fareham in 1861 by Michael Coghlan and remains family-owned and independent to this day, more than 150 years on, now run by fifth-generation owner Richard Coghlan. A second branch in Gosport joined the business in 2019 following the acquisition of E.J. Crossland Ltd, itself established in 1857, extending the firm's reach across the Fareham and Gosport areas of Hampshire.
The qualified team offers traditional funerals, direct cremation, memorial services and civil funerals, along with a wide choice of coffins in veneer, solid wood, wicker and bamboo, floral tributes, service sheets, vehicles and pre-paid funeral plans. A chapel of rest is available at the Fareham premises for families wishing to visit their loved one, and webcasting lets those unable to attend in person watch a service remotely.
A particular point of distinction is the modern ceremony room at the Gosport branch, fitted with video and photography capabilities and flexible timing, offering an alternative to a traditional crematorium or cemetery chapel. The firm is a member of both NAFD and SAIF, and although office hours are Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, support is available to families 24 hours a day.
