Grassby & Sons, headquartered at 8 Princes Street, Dorchester, was founded in 1861 by stone carver Benjamin Grassby and added funeral directing in 1970; the family firm is now run by brothers David and Peter Grassby alongside David's son Nick and Andrew Fooks. The wider group also trades as Grassby & Close (Sturminster Newton), Grassby & Stockting and Rose Funeral Service (Weymouth) and Colin J Close (Blandford), and has invested in hybrid hearses and eco-friendly coffin options alongside its original stonemasonry business.
