Grassby & Close, Sturminster Newton, is part of the wider Grassby family group founded in 1861 by stone carver Benjamin Grassby, whose descendants opened a funeral-directing arm in 1970; the group is now in its fifth/sixth generation, run by brothers David and Peter Grassby with Nick Grassby (a former solicitor) among the family directors. Alongside this branch, the group trades as Grassby & Sons in Dorchester, Grassby & Stockting and Rose Funeral Service in Weymouth, and Colin J Close in Blandford, and offers stonemasonry, eco-friendly coffins and hybrid funeral vehicles.
