F.P. Guiver & Sons was established around 1900 by Frederick Parker Guiver and has remained one of the few family-owned independent funeral directors in the Southend-on-Sea borough ever since, based at its main Southchurch Road office since the late 1920s. The firm now also operates from Eastwood in Leigh-on-Sea and Rochford, giving it a well-established presence across South Essex, serving communities including Hockley, Rayleigh, Shoeburyness, Thorpe Bay and Westcliff-on-Sea.
The team arranges traditional funerals for all denominations and non-religious services, direct cremations, coffin selection and funeral stationery, and runs a bereavement support group for families after the funeral. Golden Charter pre-paid funeral plans are available for families wanting to plan ahead, and the firm is licensed as an appointed representative of Golden Charter Limited (FCA-regulated, FRN 965279).
It's a member of both the National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD) and the Society of Allied Independent Funeral Directors (SAIF), reflecting its long-standing commitment to recognised codes of practice, and publishes standardised pricing information. Its independence, the firm says, allows it to offer a more personal and bespoke service, drawing on more than a century of local knowledge and community tradition.
