The firm was established in the 1930s near Newcastle by the Peart family and run by them for over five decades, later passing to local businessman Graeme Ward and then to Darren Johnstone, who led the business for 37 years before selling to Funeral Partners. Johnstone remains involved as Business Principal, and the firm has retained its historic family name and community ties, including church organist and sponsorship work.
The branch has since modernised its systems and online presence while maintaining local, personalised service, with standardised pricing published on its own site.
