Divine Ceremony was founded in 2015 by Dee Ryding, a former television documentary producer and British Humanist Association-trained celebrant with over 15 years in funeral services; she was named National Celebrant of the Year in 2014. The company is run by an all-female team of five, offering ceremony planning, home-arranged funerals, live-streaming, and an environmentally conscious approach including an electric vehicle fleet, carbon reporting, and coffins without MDF.
The firm is based at The Sanctuary, a converted former bank on Zetland Road in Redland, Bristol, with a flexible arrangement space for 35-40 people and a mortuary in the former bank vault; the venue also hosts monthly Death Café events. Divine Ceremony serves Bristol and the South West, with a stated philosophy of acting as facilitator rather than director, placing the person who has died at the centre of the conversation.
