A R Adams is an independent, family-run funeral director established in 1900 and now in its fifth generation, operating from Thorpe Bay (141-143 The Broadway, SS1 3EX) as well as Rayleigh and an original London site. The Thorpe Bay branch opened in 2011, following earlier expansion into Essex in 1915 and Rayleigh in the early 1930s.
Services include traditional burials and cremations, direct cremation, green funerals, veterans' funerals, repatriation, pre-need planning, live streaming, visual tributes and a range of coffin choices. The firm has won several industry awards, including UK Funeral Director of the Year (2015) and Family Business of the Year, East & East Anglia (2019).
